Dusty: Illustration Friday

In the dusty heart of the cosmos, stars and planets are born from interstellar particulate.

Chicken: Illustration Friday

On one of our wanderings through the streets of Fengyuen, we stroll down a dark alley beside the old temple. In an even darker alley off the first, we come across a collection of what must be the most beautiful chickens in the world. Each cage is a jewel box; gold, silver, sapphire, ruby and emerald feathers flash in the shadowy alley. One coop houses golden hens with high, spiky crests that would make an 80's rocker envious. Another coop holds birds with the downiest, purest, white plumage you've ever seen. We decide that these must be rare show birds. We are wrong. As we watch, money changes hands, two of the snowy birds are yanked from their flock, dispatched and tossed into a dryer-like contraption. They reemerge minutes later, stripped of their feathers. We are sad, but somewhat amazed when we see that their skin and even their meat is blue. This is a true story from the six months we taught English in Taiwan.
SPECIAL THANKS: to Lexi who gave me the wonderful little Moleskin watercolor book that I did this painting in! You're the best sister ever!
QUESTION: Does anyone actually make money selling stuff on Etsy? If you are a seller on Etsy, please comment. This is a running joke between Andrea and I. One of us will create something and share it with the other and get the reply, "You should put that on Etsy and tell me how it goes." Neither of us have Etsy shops and both of us are dying to know if anyone actually makes money on Etsy and if so, selling what!??

Tongue sticking out...

Here is Harriet, looking like one special kitty with her tongue
sticking out. I rearranged her bedroom to make it easier for her to
get to the window sill. She even has a 'dollhouse' for her fur mice
and toys. All this and she thanks me with a stick-out tongue. Cats!

Happy Birthday to Me

There was an almost full moon tonight and we ate at a nice little
tapas restaurant with a view of the city skyline. I took this photo as
we were driving into town.

Who is this 'Landi' person?

I spent my first nine years as an only child. When my sister was born, she required quite a bit more care, attention and direction. My parents quickly became so accustomed to calling out her name that when it came time to call me they would slur together the first part of Lexi's name with mine, realizing mid name that they were calling the wrong daughter. And so, shortly after Lexi's arrival, Landi was born. The third sister, she was half Lexi, half and Andi and accompanied by her cat, Bladdie. Bladdie is half Blackie, the Norwegian Forest Cat and half Maddie the tabby.

crazy monkey house

Look at this crazy monkey house that we found while driving around
White Rock Lake looking at houses. Awesome!

Déjà Vu: Illustration Friday

"The strongest pathological association of déjà vu is with temporal lobe epilepsy. This correlation has led some researchers to speculate that the experience of déjà vu is possibly a neurological anomaly related to improper electrical discharge in the brain. As most people suffer a mild epileptic episode regularly (e.g. a hypnagogic jerk, the sudden "jolt" that frequently, but not always, occurs just prior to falling asleep), it is conjectured that a similar neurological aberration occurs in the experience of déjà vu, resulting in an erroneous sensation of memory." - Wikipedia

Painting and watching snow fall

Here is the window where I work on my art. I relocated the snowglobe
collection to the low windowsill after Zilla knocked the Charleston
globe off the high sill, spilling it's contents onto the new wireless
printer. The printer is now covered in glitter, but still works.

Snowing on our Little House

The lamb's ear plant was the first to catch the flakes and keep them
from melting.

Snowing in Dallas

It is snowing on my koi windsock.
